California Wine Month September 2018: Tasting Rooms & Wineries to Explore

Still Frothy Surf Festival, September 21-23, 2018

This exciting and unique 3-day event (September 21-23) includes the only Tow-At (jet ski assist) Air Division on the Central Coast, high-lighting traveling and local pros, Youth Divisions, JR Guard Challenge & a Pro-Am Contest. Plus, free giveaways will be taking place all day on both Saturday and Sunday at the Pismo Pier. Surfing for Hope Annual Longboard Surf Contest, October 5&6, 2018

The Surfing for Hope Annual Longboard Contest Weekend will take place in Pismo Beach, California. This event is designed to help inspire people challenged by cancer through the positive energy of surfing. The event begins on Friday afternoon with Opening Ceremonies. The Ceremonies include a Memorial Paddle Out to honor friends and loved ones who have lost their battle with cancer. Following in the paddle out, a Benefit Reception featuring foods and wines of the Central Coast, silent auction, and will take place at Avila Beach Lighthouse Suites. On Saturday the Annual Longboard Surf Contest and Cancer Resource Health Fair will be held at the Pismo Beach pier. The contest is open to ages 10 and up with a variety of divisions. The Health Fair focuses on business and local groups which support, educate and help people who are going through the cancer experience. All proceeds from Surfing for Hope benefit the Surfing for Hope Foundation in San Luis Obispo, California. Since 2012, Surfing for Hope has raised more than $200,000 to support and assist cancer patients and their families. Beneficiaries last year included the Pure Stoke Youth Program and local cancer resources for current families battling cancer.

Clam Festival: Friday, Oct. 19 - Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018

Celebrate the 71st Anniversary of the Clam Festival in Pismo Beach which includes regional food, wine & brews, music, entertainment, parade, Wine Walk, Chowder Contest, Clam Dig, Surf Contest, Clam Bake, and so much more. Tickets sell out early.

Pismo Jazz Jubilee: Thursday, Oct. 25 - Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018

Jazz and Wine Lovers gather to celebrate the 42nd Annual Jubilee by the Sea Jazz Festival featuring New Orleans-style jazz, big band performances, dancing, local food and beverages.  This year, the Basin Street Regulars presents the most ambitious of band line-ups ever featured at the Jazz Jubilee by the Sea in Pismo Beach. New Bands include Syncopated Times writer, Adrian Cunningham, Shake ‘Em Up Jazz Band from New Orleans, Tom Hook and the Terriers, The Au Brothers and Blue Street Jazz Band. Three Days, five venues, over 25 bands.

Welcome the Monarchs

The Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove is one of only five sites in the state that has counts of over 10,000.Each year thousands of vibrant orange and black Monarch Butterflies flock to Pismo Beach, seeking shelter from the freezing northern winters. From late October to February, the butterflies cluster in the limbs of a grove of Eucalyptus trees at Pismo State Beach. The grove is easily accessible and is located on CA State Highway 1 at the south boundary of the city limits of Pismo Beach.

Visit the Historic Chapman House

The CITY OF PISMO BEACH and THE CHAPMAN ESTATE FOUNDATION opened the  CHAPMAN ESTATE for PUBLIC ACCESS & DOCENT TOURS.  The Chapman Estate, a historical and cultural site, was gifted by Clifford Chapman to the City of Pismo Beach in 2013 to be used for pubic enjoyment, neighborhood gatherings, private occasions, weddings, and other activities for designated non-profit organizations.  This landmark property was developed over an extended period of time dating back to 1914, earning the name of “Windmill House,” because of its iconic windmill visible from both land and sea. With over 26 miles of pristine coastline throughout our rich natural world, you can kayak or SUP along outstanding vistas of rugged coastline and oceanic caves nestled beneath palisades accompanied by migrating marine lifesuch as dolphins, whales, and sea otters and numerous bird species including warblers and adorable snowy plovers.  Ride horseback along white sandy shorelines and a riparian estuary flanked by majestic Eucalyptus trees, home to our famous Monarch Butterfly Grove.
